Food

Food is near the top of the list of things you might miss when away from home. But as Indian communities living in every nook and corner, you can easily find Indian eateries and food joints. Alternatively, enjoy the famous fish and chips, full English breakfast or indulge in diverse meals and menus. Food in the UK is diverse, with many international cuisines available. However, eating out can be expensive, and many students opt to cook for themselves. Most universities have communal kitchens where students can prepare their own meals, and there are also budget-friendly supermarkets and a wide range of organic products as well.

Breath-taking natural beauty

In these fragile times it can be a blessed relief to take solace in the fact that there are countless sites across the UK that are testament to Mother Nature and the relentless passage of time. Sometimes not everything in life is about human endeavour. UK is a surprisingly green island with a deeply indented coastline of almost 20,000 miles. Within its boundaries, the UK is a sort of world in miniature — with canyons, mountains, river valleys, deep, beautiful lakes and amazing beaches. These are among the best of its natural wonders.

Whether you’re based in the city or the countryside, or somewhere in between, you’ll be able to travel to most places in the UK quickly and see a lot during your time here. The Eurostar, international coaches and great flight connections, buses , cars and taxis mean that the whole of Europe is also right on your doorstep. To satiate your wanderlust, you can schedule some hangout time with your friends for your semester break or the weekend.

Cultural diversity

The UK is a diverse and multicultural country, with a rich history and vibrant contemporary culture. As soon as you settle in the country, the first thing to do is interact with many people. UK has an incredible combination of people from various nationalities, hence, you will get to see various cultures closely as a part of your student life in UK. In the UK about 14% of the population is from abroad. Getting in touch with people from different cultures and learning about them fascinates international students.  You can go to neighbourhood gatherings and socialise with others from a similar cultural background as the UK is so kind and hospitable, it's extremely unlike that you will ever miss home.

Student unions

One of the unique aspects of student life in the UK is the tradition of the student union. Student unions are independent organizations run by students, for students. They provide a wide range of services and support, from advocacy and representation to social events and sports clubs. Many universities have their own student unions, which are an important part of the student experience.

Work while you learn

To manage your everyday living expenses along with your studies, you can work part-time for up to 20 hours a week during term time. You can even work full-time during your semester break. This will help you pay for your bills as well as gain industry experience in your field of study as well.

Being an international student there are some etiquettes in the UK you must know

  • Simple politeness is always expected, British people like to hear ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.
  • Student drinking culture is very different and dominant in the UK and you will be surprised by the amount of alcohol some students consume. However, you should never feel pressurized into drinking. Pubs are social meeting places rather then getting drunk.
